HSJGA Hawaii Boys Have Strong Finish in AJGA
EAST WENATCHEE, Wash. — Zak Griffiths of Red Deer, Alberta, posted a tournament total of 13-under-par 203 to claim his first career AJGA victory at the AJGA Junior at Wenatchee. Kendall Prince of Lake Oswego, Ore., made a late surge to claim a three-stroke victory in the Girls Division at Wenatchee Golf and Country Club.
Lorens Chan of Honolulu finished second with a three day total of 210 with scores of 71-68-71 while Alika Bell of Kaneohe, finished sixth with a three day total of 217 with scores of 69-73-75. Other Hawaii players in the field of 72 players were Scott Hayashi, Kailua, finished 49th and Brett Komoto, Honolulu, finished tied for 54th. Honolulu’s Marissa Suehiro (84–252) took 25th in the Girls division.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Junior at Wenatchee was a 54-hole stroke-play competition held at the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club in East Wenatchee, Wash. The 99-player field featured 72 boys and 27 girls, representing 12 states and Canada. The Boys Division played the par-72 course from 6,364 yards while the Girls Division played from 6,006 yards.
In other AJGA tournaments on the Mainland:
One bad round kept Waipahu’s Allisen Corpuz out of contention at the Golf Pride Junior Classic, in Pinehurst, N.C. Corpuz shot 74-85-71–230 to finish fourth, eight shots back.
At the Houston Junior, at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, Honolulu’s Trey Kidd tied for 51st. Kidd finished at 81–234.
