HAWAII STATE JUNIOR GOLF ASSOCIATION

Seniors sign early National Letter of Intent and were honored at the 2010 Asia Pacific Junior Cup Opening Ceremony

Waikoloa, Hawaii, November 10, 2010 — Five (5) Hawaii State Junior Golf Association seniors (class of 2011) signed their early National Letters of Intent today during the 2010 Asia Pacific Junior Cup Opening Ceremony at Waikoloa Kings’ Course.

The players who signed were: Cyd Okino (Honolulu) – University of Washington; Alina Ching (Honolulu) – Pepperdine University; Cassy Isagawa (Wailuku) – University of Oregon; and Ryan Kuroiwa (Aiea) – University of Hawaii at Manoa; Alice Kim (Honolulu) – Gonzaga University.

The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is an agreement that a prospective student-athlete will attend a designated college or university for at least one academic year.  Once the contract is signed, the student is no longer subject to further recruiting contacts.  The student is also guaranteed their athletic scholarship for one year.

Round one of the Asia Pacific Junior Cup will commence tomorrow, November 11, with the first group teeing off at 9:30am.  The course will be open to spectators from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

The Maui Golf Review has put together a wonderful golf show called “Da Game” where they’ll be covering all the junior golf happenings on Maui and across the state!  Dates of the shows will be announced later and will be aired statewide.  For now, here’s a little sneak peak: DA GAME.

A big congratulations to Rudy Cabalar Jr. of Ewa Beach for shooting an incredible 6-under par 66 at the Turtle Bay Amateur Golf Tournament hosted by Turtle Bay Resort – Fazio Course!  The tournament was held this past weekend, October 16-17.

Second place went to Brian Lee of Honolulu, who shot a 2-under 70!

Well done guys :-D !!

 

The HSJGA is thrilled to announce that Cassy Isagawa and team USA won the 2010 Junior Ryder Cup!!  Cassy helped her team to victory on Tuesday, September 28 in Perthshire, Scotland, where the American’s defended their title against the Europeans 13 1/2 to 10 1/2. Congratulations Cassy and team USA!  Job well done!
