HAWAII STATE JUNIOR GOLF ASSOCIATION

Inaugural Dave & Busters Junior Classic

Lihue, Hawaii, August 23, 2010 — The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA) is proud to announce the addition of Dave & Buster’s Honolulu as a new title sponsor. Dave & Buster’s will sponsor the inaugural Dave & Buster’s Junior Classic to be played on August 28-29 at Waikele Golf Club on Oahu.

For the inaugural year the tournament is open to HSJGA members, boys and girls ages 13-18. Matt Luckett, General Manager of Dave & Buster’s Honolulu, has future plans to sponsor a tournament for all age groups 7-18 on each island culminating at the end of the year with a Junior-Amateur Championship on Oahu.

“The HSJGA is excited about its new partnership with Dave & Busters Honolulu and is looking forward to building a long term relationship with the potential of expanding next year and years to come,” says HSJGA President Mary Bea Porter-King.  The HSJGA is able to afford many opportunities for its junior member’s thanks in part to the support from businesses like Dave & Busters Honolulu.  Mahalo to Matt Luckett, General Manager of Dave & Busters Honolulu for his continued support of junior golf in Hawaii!

:-D Congratulations and good luck to all of our teams!! :-D

HSJGA member, Lorens Chan of Honolulu carded a final-round score of even-par 71 to finish with a winning score of 4-under-par 209 at the AJGA Nebraska Junior at Quarry Oaks. Somin Lee was crowned the Girls Division Champion after posting a 2-over-par 73 during the final round, putting her at even-par 213.

The AJGA Nebraska Junior at Quarry Oaks was a 54-hole stroke play tournament conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Quarry Oaks in Ashland, Neb. The tournament field consisted of 77 boys and girls ages 12-18 from 18 states and Canada. The Boys Division played the par-71 course at 6,813 yards while the Girls Division played at 6,045 yards.

Chan entered the day three strokes off the lead, and made his comeback with consistent play, keeping the ball in the fairways and hitting greens.

“I managed to keep it in play, and I had a shot to the greens, on this course if you don’t keep it in play and hit in the wrong spot you are pretty much done,” Chan said. This course will eat you alive so I just kept it in play and just kept trying to make par, and if birdie comes that’s great.”

CONGRATULATIONS LORENS, WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!

Congratulations to all the AGE DIVISION winners at this year’s King Auto Group HSJGA State Junior Championship!
