A big CONGRATULATIONS to Hideki Matsuyama of Japan for winning low amateur in the 2011 Masters!! Matsuyama is a native of Sendai, Japan–one of the hardest hit areas of the recent quake and tsunami.  It is an incredible and well deserved accomplishment.

Flashback:  In 2008, Matsuyama came to Hawaii to play for Japan in the USA-Hawaii Japan Junior Cup (now Asia Pacific Junior Cup).  His record is very impressive as he beat Aaron Tom and Bou-An Fujieki in the Four-Ball Match.  He also beat the very talented Alika Bell in Singles, but eventually lost his match with Risa Ogusu (Japan) to Kristina Merkle and Henry Park 2-up.  Hawaii eventually went on to win the Cup 24 1/2 to 19 1/2.

It was a breezy weekend on Kauai at the 14 & Under JTS – Kauai which made for tough playing conditions, but overall, a fun time catching up with friends and playing some great golf!

Joe Steranka, CEO of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) was visiting Kauai on his way to speak at the Hawaii Golf Industry Conference on Oahu (Monday, March 21) and was kind enough to stop by and greet the juniors and hand out awards!  What a special treat!!
